Since its creation in 1959 under the aegis of René Clair and Pablo Casals-Honorary presidents-the festival has offered to movie lovers from all over France as well as the Catalan public, directors' or actors' retrospectives or themes. The international film Encounters became the Ciné-Rencontres in 1996.
The International Prades Film Festival was created in 1959, making it the oldest film festival in France after Cannes. Throughout its history, the festival has remained faithful to a certain idea of cinema and a way of showing it. In a friendly setting, at the foot of Mount Canigou, the Catalans' sacred mountain, the festival has welcomed more than 1200 prestigious guests and seen more than 180 000 festival-goers pass by during the 3rd week of July.
The main objective of Prades’ Festival is to always work towards better diffusion and accessibility to author's films, with the accompaniment of works by their directors, and in the presence of actors, producers, critics ... to promote young filmmakers, to make meetings between the public and film professionals possible and to encourage such transmission in a spirit of conviviality and proximity that is dear to our sponsorship committee chaired by director Robert Guédiguian.
